Parents often say that they just want their children to be happy. Yet parents often define the idea of “being happy” through their own filters and not those of their children.  Parents’ efforts at helping their children achieve happiness are also influenced by the popular aspects of the culture in which they live. These aspects can include emphasis on wealth, celebrity, power, and physical attractiveness.

Some parents overextend their financial and emotional resources to ensure that their children are receiving everything possible. Somehow, not offering our children every possible opportunity seems like it might be bad parenting. But is it worth it? Maybe not. If parents are exhausted and worried over money, quality time with their children could diminish.
