Enlightenment is a word that provokes a lot of concepts, associations, and imagery. It often depends upon who is defining the word and that person’s personal experience.

The average person is filled with countless thoughts on any given day. Often, these thoughts are spin-offs of other thoughts, and they steal our awareness of the moment. Some people define enlightenment as being able to step back from the mind and act as a silent witness. But is this enlightenment, and why aren’t we able to do this naturally?
