The meaning of Thanksgiving usually includes large dinners, four-day weekends, football games, parades, family gatherings, and a precursor to Christmas shopping and preparation.

The “first Thanksgiving,” however, was not a feast or a holiday. It was more of a simple gathering in thanks for surviving harsh conditions and cultivating a bounty of grown food. In this light, Thanksgiving can be a meaningful reminder to be grateful for being alive and thankful for everything that has enabled you to be here. Many families take a moment on Thanksgiving Day to let each person voice what he or she is thankful for. It can be about another person or even about things often taken for granted, such as a sunny day glistening with a blue clear sky, a delicious meal, or a few kind words with a friend.

But being really thankful is not just about words, as Sadhguru reminds us.
