On a nice Sunday morning – June 24, 2018 around 8 a.m. – there’s some activity outside the capitol building in Hartford, Connecticut. From the nearby park, people are passing by on their morning jog, slowing down to see what it’s all about. About 50 people have gathered for what seems to be a yoga class. An instructor is giving instructions and two people are demonstrating.

One jogger approaches the group. He looks at the banners. The people at the registration desk respond warmly to his questions, satisfying his curiosity. This is a free event, they say, offered by Isha Yoga volunteers on the occasion of International Day of Yoga. He comes to know a little about Isha Foundation and its teacher, Sadhguru, and he takes some printouts with online resources. That was some productive jogging session!

Meanwhile, the group of 50 are feeling joyful upon having learned the simple yet effective techniques of Upa Yoga. They learned a powerful practice, Yoga Namaskar. There was a raffle and one lucky participant won Sadhguru’s book: Inner Engineering, A Yogi’s Guide to Joy. Upa yoga was one of the four events offered that day. Among the four was a lecture on Ayurveda.

The volunteers who conducted the session are equally joyful. They are enthusiastic about conducting the next session, already under planning following the success of this event.
