On a cruise boat, on an island(Governors Island, NY), in homes, in libraries and in offices…..Sunshine of Upa yoga is permeating many different venues this month for the International Day Of Yoga. Take a ride with the Isha volunteers as they recall their experience on a yoga cruise.

Five Isha volunteers approached a 3 tiered cruise boat “Power to Create – Meditation for Success” for the”Vegetarian Vision Yoga Cruise” Sunday June 3 with 450 people to offer “Power to create – Meditation for Success” on Hudson river. With no chance to prepare the ambience and test the AV system beforehand, they had to make it happen on the fly. “The audio system on the boat itself was tinny and weak, and would not have projected the needed volume and clarity of the meditation, so we decided to just use the top floor, where they had brought in additional speakers and a microphone,” says Claire the facilitator thinking that such decisions rise from the conviction and dedication to offer the best possible in any given situation.

Another volunteer, Manasa, observed that many introduction by organizers began, but “still people were not listening to it and were engaged completely in their own personal conversations and whole upper deck was crowded” as another volunteer, Srini wondered if this chaos could ever turn into meditation. Volunteers took charge of the deck and requested everyone to sit on the floor. About 75-100 people were seated and ready to learn something new. Perhaps they sensed the earnestness of the volunteers and what they were going to offer.

Manasa reminisces that, “…as meditation process started, and Sadhguru began speaking about it, just in a matter of few seconds, there was total silence and people got themselves involved into the process. And I thought that we were there just to make arrangement and ultimately  Sadhguru makes it happen in anyway.” Claire shares her experience as, “The people who did participate and kept eyes closed seemed very into it, and enthusiastically responded at the end when I said we hoped they enjoyed it.  We were on the boat for several more hours and many people came up to us and said they very much appreciated and enjoyed the meditation.”

The ambience of trust and sincerity created by the whole event was definitely felt by all. In Claire’s words, “One lady said that a few minutes after chit shakti was over, she got a phone call confirming that her short term goal/vision, which she had been working on for months was completed successfully.” The facilitators were in awe of how an offering designed by Sadhguru can transform the participants and those who offer it alike. The volunteers left the venue overflowing with joy to be spread at another event, another venue…
