Yoga has been accepted unanimously worldwide with instilling peace, joy, and reducing stress. It conjures diametrically opposing visuals of twisting bodies into impossible postures to sitting absolutely still. Yoga means various things to different people, but the common experience is that it brings well-being.

According to Yoga Journal, 250 million are practicing yoga worldwide. The popularity of yoga has been increasingly on the rise. And now it’s becoming official. Yoga has become a global movement with government support.

This past fall, the U.N. declared that moving forward, June 21st will be the International Day of Yoga; proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and supported by 170 countries. PM Modi said yoga lets people “discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature.” The 193-member U.N. General Assembly approved by consensus for the very first time a resolution establishing a day to commemorate the ancient practice, which Modi called for during his inaugural address to all the world governments.

President Obama shared, “Given the Prime Minister Modi’s advocacy at the United Nations, Michelle and I are looking forward to the first International Yoga Day,” at a banquet India in New Delhi a day before the Indian Republic Day Celebrations.

So the governments of the world are in agreement in thinking beyond social and economic factors to care for people and make their wellbeing a priority. To that end, a pioneeringretreat was held by Sadhguru for the highest level of government officials at the 8th largest state in India, Andra Pradesh: “Inner Engineering-for joyful living.”

The Chief Minister of the state, CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu shares,”Transformation of self is the toughest, but most blissful, I’ve understood that looking inward is the toughest. But, once we begin doing that, we realise that there is no greatest and happiest thing than this.”

Inner Engineering is not religious – it is a technology for well-being based on the science of meditation and yoga that, with practice helps people around the globe reduce stress, improve relationships and increase their mental clarity. Naidu reinstate that the program is, “not related to any religion or god but spirituality with scientific reasoning, benefits of Yoga and meditation. Irrespective of our caste, creed, gender, age, religion, Sadhguru teaches us to abandon our miseries, which trouble us and to live blissfully.”

The program designed by Sadhguru, yogi, mystic and one of the foremost authorities on yoga, employs methods from the distilled essence of yogic sciences. It empowers you to create your life the way you want it. When someone who has the privilege and the opportunity to touch the lives of so many people, being equipped with potent tools that empowers them to benefits millions is essential.

This effect is evident in Naidu’s sharing of increasing the happiness quotient as he says, “The reason I introduced my council of ministers and my team to Sadhguru’s classes is because if our officials, the highest level of the government, decide to enhance the lives of its people, no one can stop our state from becoming a happy place. I have also learnt that I need to reinforce leadership with different layers in creating an efficient government and a brighter, happier and a healthy state. Crafting a new state means giving joy and touching lives of all the people.”

Over several hundred officials participated in the Inner Engineering program so that they could make a positive impact on the lives of 49 million people for whom they are accountable.

As these leaders have embraced yoga, yoga will continue to benefit their lives and percolate to the lives that they impact around them.
