When you are depressed the last thing that comes to your mind is to reach out to others.  Hence it create a spiral of hopeless in your mind and it can be quite a challenge to come out of.  With the social stigma attached there are also many situations of depressions that go unreported, especially among conservative cultures. If undiagnosed, depression can sometimes create a situation where you are struggling for functioning in the day-to-day life and in extreme cases  lead to suicidal thoughts.

Many factors can lead to depression including genetic influences, early childhood experiences or a significantly stressful situation in life like loss of a Loved one. When a condition is identified there are various treatments available including seeking the help of a  psychologist/ therapist, antidepressant medications and committing to live a more healthier lifestyle. Yoga and meditation have been recent tools that doctors have been using to aid in their treatment to help patients overcome depression. Studies by Harvard University and University of Sienna has confirmed that consistent practice can help alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression in people.
