In our society, goals seep into every aspect of our lives, from infancy to adulthood. They define who you want to be. There are eating goals, coupled with health goals. Other examples are educational goals, including the grading system. Ever popular are the weight and physical-appearance goals; beauty products for sale define these goals and are based on a set style and appearance curve. Career goals are rampant and not only encourage comparison but also competition.

The setting of goals is more likely to be encouraged than not. Reasons given for setting goals include an opportunity to control your life; a way to achieve the maximum optimal result; a means of creating a “laser focus”; a way to make people accountable; and a way to motivate people.
