On September 12th, a different kind of event was being hosted in Prescott, an Arizona retirement city. The Isha volunteers in the community organized a Meditation For Beginners event at the Adult Center of Prescott. Participants learned the simple but powerful Isha Kriya practice.

The session was facilitated by Ritu, a medical professional and very active volunteer in her community. She had facilitated a dozen events already and was eager to host this session.

The event was attended by eight enthusiastic participants. The overall response was great;  they loved the video and were very appreciative of the instructions sheet they received at the end. Most of them shared that they felt a sense of calmness and peace, and they all expressed their willingness to continue the practice for a cycle of 40 days.

While the participants were waiting for the session to start, they received from the  volunteers a copy of an article on health and stress by Sadhguru. It gave them some context and a bit of knowledge about Sadhguru and what he has to offer.

The session was a great opportunity for Ritu to reflect on her journey as an Isha Kriya facilitator in her community. “I used to think that I don’t have young population to share this wonderful technique which Sadguru has offered. But after listening to some of the participants’ experience, I feel we are all at some stage of sadhana [spiritual practice] and it does not matter if you are 90. I had the privilege of offering this kriya* to some of the people who are above 90 years old.” As a matter of fact, the average age in Prescott is above 50.

About her experience of volunteering, Ritu shared, “Just a few words from Sadhguru and his technique can bring a transformation and self-realization. I feel that I myself have grown so much in this process of volunteering. I feel we can touch many hearts with Isha Kriya.”

The willingness and commitment of the volunteers to share the tools of transformation in their community is growing and they want to offer more sessions and touch more people in all walks of life. They plan to reach out also to juvenile centers and hope to touch high school kids. They also plan to organize events in medical facilities. Those plans reflect what Ritu told us about the vision they have for their city. “We need to do much more than what we are doing now. Let us all be receptive to Sadguru grace.”
